A Six-Step Process Built Around Preparatio

A durable floor starts below the decorative finish. Imperial prepares the concrete, repairs damage, and builds each layer in sequence so the coating can bond and perform as intended.

Grind the concrete

Mechanically grind the surface to remove contaminants and create the profile needed for coating adhesion.

01

Patch cracks and damaged areas

Repair cracks, holes, and damaged areas to restore a sound, more even base.

02

Apply the basecoat

Apply a durable epoxy or polyurea basecoat that forms the adhesive foundation of the flake system.

03

Broadcast decorative flake

Distribute polymer flakes evenly over the wet basecoat to create color, pattern, texture, and added traction.

04

Scrape away excess flake

Remove loose and raised material so the finished texture is controlled and consistent.

05

Apply the clear coat

Seal the system with a UV-stable polyaspartic clear coat that protects and enhances the finished floor.

More Than a Coat of Paint

Imperial’s premium flake system combines concrete preparation, repair, high-bond primers, a resin basecoat, decorative flake, and a protective clear topcoat. Each layer has a different job, and the finished floor depends on all of them working together.

Process FAQs

Grinding removes surface contamination and creates a mechanical profile that helps the coating adhere to the concrete.

Imperial patches visible cracks and damaged areas before applying the coating system. Repairs improve the base, though future concrete movement can still occur.

Project timing depends on area size, concrete condition, repairs, environmental conditions, and the coating specification. Imperial will explain the expected schedule during the quote.
